This area deserves its name ('emperor's seat'), and offers first-class wines.
Kaiserstuhl was formerly combined with Tuniberg , but is an independent area today, and also Baden's densest and largest. The vines grow n the slopes of the Kaiserstuhl, an old volcano, mostly on volcanic ash and loess-clay. Strong wines of high alcohol content (for Germany), are made from Ruländer, Spätburgunder, and Müller-Thurgau. The Rosé Ehrentrudis Spätburgunder Weißherbst is one of the region's specialties.
