In Graves lies the origin o Bordeaux wines. The names "clairet" und "claret" are from this area. The first wines were a mixture of red and white grapes, and were bright red color, and light character.
Today full, rounded, and complex wines of true elegance are produced from the clay and limestone gravelly soil. White types are increasingly influenced by the barrel and are usually dry but fruity. The best red wines were classified as 1953, the whites 1959. One can find Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc und a few Anteile Malbec und Petit Verdot vines in the area. Of the white vines there are Sauvignon Blanc, Sémillon, Muscadelle and Ugni Blanc.
The wines are made in the traditional Bordeaux method. The fermentation is done is wooden barrels, cement or refined steel. Then it is refined in oak barrels.
