Langhorne Creek has a similarly long wine history as McLaren Vale. But today there aren't as many companies as there used to be.
1850 the first vines were planted by Frank Potts on the Bleasdale site (named after the famous wine personality Reverend Bleasdale). The region's best wines are still made by the Potts family. Since its founding, many of the grapes are delivered to other businesses, like Wolf Blass and Saltram.
The wines are softer and rounder than those in McLaren Vale. The best examples of the Cabernet can be ideal expamples of the warm, full Southern Austrlian red wine.
The ground is fertile and deep. The vines must be irrigated, which foten elads to flooding. The otherwise fairly warm climate is cooled off by the proximity to the ocean.
