This proposed region is centred upon the Tumbarumba and Tooma districts of the western Snowy Mountains area of New South Wales. It is a historical succesful apple-growing location.
Frank Minutello pioneered grape growing and today, there are 28 vineyards in the region. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir account over three-quaters of the plantings which encompass an area of 309 ha. Other grapes are Sauvignon Blanc, Meunier, Shiraz, Merlot and several other varieties ripening early to mid-season.
Southcorp Wines is the dominant end user of the grapes produced chiefly for sparkling wine base and for early ripening table wines.
Climatic details are sparse but Tumbarumba is quite cool with a mean January temperature of 19°C. There ist also one local cellar door outlet, Tumbarumba Cellars.
