The landscape here is hilly. The climate doesn't always offer the best conditions with frost and hail. The area is west of Melbourne, and the growing areas are concentrated around the town of Great Western.
Stiff, well-balanced Shiraz-wines have been made here since the mid-1990's. The red wines from Cabernet Sauvignon aren't bad either. They are made clean or blended are are generally of a lighter texture. The white wines are made from Chardonnay and Riesling. The best sparkling wines are made like champagne.
