Grampians is named after the mountain range in the west, and used to be called Great Western.

This region stretches two and a half hours by car in the west fro Melbourne to the towns Stawell, Great Western, and Ararat. The area has a lively history. While walking through one of the halls of the mines founded in the cellars 1860, which are covered in mold, one can smell the ideal conditions for the ripening of the first great sparkling wines of Victoria in the humid air. Back then, Ondenc and Chasselas vines were cultivated, but these have died out on Grampians.

Grampians has been a synomyn for sparkling wines since the middle 20th century. Seppelt Great Western today owns the sparkling wine production for the entire Southcorp Group. Grapes from all over the country are processed here. Today sparkling wines are made from the classic grapes of the Champagne: Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier . Great Western is also the home of the red Shiraz sparkling wines, which is made after the méthode champenoise.

Excellent table wines are also made here. The concentrated Shiraz has tempting spice and great depth. The Riesling is surprisingly fresh.
