The wine companies are all relatively new. The spaakling wine company Yellowglen was founded in Ballarat in 1970. Since then only a few companies have come around here, but we can count on expansion in the future. Some excellent wines are produced here. The minty, intense and large Shiraz is well-known. The Cabernet Sauvignon also succeeds well too. Sandy, brown clay earth dominates, like in Gouldburn.
