In the southernmost area of Côte Beaune makes white wines of good quality and also Premier-Cru red wines. White and red wines can be stored for 10-20 years.
South of Puligny-Montrachet is where one finds the southernmost community of the Côte de Beaune. One differs between the Puligny side towards the southeast and the Chassagne side which stretches out in a curve along the hills towards the south. The wines from the Pulingy side usually have greater finesse and better character. The three Grands Crus are Le Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet, wich are then split into Puligny-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet. There are 14 Premiers Crus-
The quality of the wines is steady and more even that from the neighboring communities of Meursault and Puligny-Montrachet. The prices keep up with the quality. The dry white wines have a cent of exotic fruits and lemons. They are usually fatter and have higher alcohol contents than those form Puligny-Montrachet. The best red wines are velvety, light to medium full, with a definite hint of cherries.
The soils conditions vary, from limestone and gravel soils with clay or white marl at the surface. Chardonnay and Pinot Noir are the vines cultivated here.
