Wineries in Madrid

Madrid is Spain's capital and the meeting place of the Peninsula's most important wines.
The county Madrid is in Spain's center and its capital Madrid is also the country's capital. The area has DO (origin designation), called "Vinos de Madrid".

The climate is almost as continental as in Castilla-La Mancha - cold winters and very hot summer. The small amount of rain keeps wine production small, but quality is superb. Madrid has 12,200 hectares of growing area, that is split into three sub-areas: San Martin de Valdeiglesias (it produces the red vine Garnacha and the white Albillo), Navalcarnero (the red Garnacha and the white Malvar), and Arganda (produces the red Tempranillo and the white Malvar and Airén vines).

There are highly modern cellars in this area today, that make high quality wines, that are also loved among the experts.
