The European market was drowned in medium to bad wines from this region in recent years. Lately one has switched to the production of small quanities of quality wines, instead of mass production. Production methods were modernized, and vines of bad quality were replaced by Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and Sauvignon Blanc.
The ground in this region is rocky, meagre, and almost infertile on the slopes, and a bit better in the plains. The amount of rain is small, and the sun shines for over 3000 hours per year, plus it is very windy here.
all types of wines are made from the typical southern French vines Mourv, Gren, Syrah, and Carignan, but also some Bordeaux vines. The red wines are usually simple table wines, and are increasingly made after the Macération Carbonique method. The white wines show all levels of sugar, and are fermented cooly to keep freshness and fruit.
