<img align="right" alt="sanfter huegel" border="0" height="159" hspace="2" src="http://www.austrian.wine.co.at/wein/images/traisfot.jpg" width="216">The Traisental has 682 hectares for wine-growing. The sand, gravel and clay soil tends toward dryness. Produced mostly is the Grüner Veltliner, but the spectrum includes Welschriesling, Riesling, Chardonnay and traditional red varieties.

When grape seeds dating back to the Bronze Age were found here, it was clear that a wine culture had existed in this historical region long before the Romans had inhabited it. Deep green tracts of land with picturesque vineyards meld with the soft plains Iying at the foot of the Alps.

In the midst of this beauty are the wine villages of Inzersdorf, Getzersdorf and Reichersdorf, where plenty of Grüner Veltliner, Weissburgunder and Blauburgunder are grown. The Renaissance castle, Walpersdorf, and the museum of Inzersdorf, both tell the story of this area's past - some of it quite charming. A past such as when, at the turn of the century, many Viennese would spend long, summer days here sipping "Nussdorfer" wine while soaking in the scenery.

Still today, a walk through the vineyards up to the hills of Nussdorf is special. The views to the Traisental and Donautal valleys are spectacular. Along the Traisen river is the wine village of Traismauer. A host of cultural treasures are found here - from the excellent wines to the "Weinlehrpfad", an historic walking path through the areas devoted to wine-making.
