Mostly red vines are cultivated on the black claysoil of the slopes of the Nagy Eged in the northeast.
The region is on the southwestern slopes of the Buekk Hills.

The climate doesn't permit the same strength of the wines from southern regions, but this is compensated for by an excellent method of production. The wines are fruity, elegant, and complex.

Eger is known worldwide fr its Egri Bikaver, but the Blue Frankish has taken over.

In the southern part of this region, with centers in Maklár, Szomolya, Ostoros, Demjén, Egerszalók, Andornaktálya, Noszvaj and the southern part of Eger, volcanic ash dominates. The result is that Huganry's strongest and best wines are from this region.
In the west white and red wines are produced. The most important vines are: Welsh Riesling, Traminer, Ottonel-Muscat, and for red wines the Blue Frankish, Semillon and Merlot.
