The region Dél-Balaton reaches from the Balaton Lake, from Zamáradi over Lelle to Balatonboglar and south to Andocs and Tab. Dél-Balaton has idyllic beautiful scenery.
This region is geologically and climatically optimal, and predestined for viniculture. In spite of the region's size the excellent conditions are fairly similar throughout.
Mostly white vines are cultivated in Dél-Balaton: Welsh Riesling, Ottonel-Muscat, Pinot Gris, Sauvignon Blanc, and Traminer. This is the only region in Hungary that cultivates Semillon as well.
Of the red vines there are Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Blue Frankish.
The vintners have completely converted to a reductive cultivation way, which shows in the fruit and subtle scent of the light wines.
In recent years an increasing number of small- and middlesized vineyards have established themselves in this region. |
