The wines from this appellation are simple but of good quality. The dry white wines are made the traditional Mâconnais, and should be drunk early.
The wines' popularity from Saint-Véran is still relatively small and so the prices are still good. The dry white wines have depth and fullness with hints of oak and honey.
The appellation was formed in 1971. It lies within the same borders as Saint-Amour in Beaujolais. Today the most wines that were sold as Beaujolais Blanc are now brought to the market as Saint-Véran. The communities are split into a zone north, and one south of Pouilly-Fuissé. Davayé and Prissé are in the northern part, and Chânes, Chasselas, Leynes, Saint-Amour, Saint-Véran, and a part of Solutré in the southern area.
The soil is rich in limestone. Only Chardonnay is cultivated. fermentation takes place in steel tanks. To retain the fruit the wine is filled into the bottle early on. Some producers use oak barrels.
