42 villages were combined under this appellation. Only white wines are made. The Chardonnay is one of the best and price-worthy of the region.
Eight of the villages have the right to use the name Beaujolais Blanc, four may use St-Véran. If the wine is from only one village, then it may replace the name village with its name. The best-known communities are Chaintre, Clessé, Igé, Lugny, Prissé, and Viré as well as Chardonnay and Chasselas which gave the vines their names.
The best wines come from soil rich in limestone. Chardonnay is cultivated most, followed by a little Pinot Blanc. To retain the freshness and fruit of the wines, they are processed in noble steel tanks. The wine are also filled into bottles early on.
