The wines from this region can be called a lighter version of the those from Coteaux du Layon. The white wines are fairly delicious, the red wines are fruity and spicy.
The good reputation that these wines had after WWII has been lost. This is why many producers are starting to change their production methods, or even making red wine. But until now the red wines haven´t reached good quality. But the vintnters are eagerly experimenting and maye the red wines will someday dominate the region.
The fruity, balanced white wines have good backbone. The red wines are degraded to AOC Anjou, and are at best fruity and spicy. They are usually worth their cost. They are trimmed to great fruit and medium color. Long fermentation in their peels and processing in barriques is so rare. The AOC Coteaux de L'Aubance is only for the white wines.
Limestone soils with slate and loam dominate in Aubance. Chenin Blanc is cultivated for the white wines and Cabernet Franc for the red. The vintage decides the wines´ sweetness.
