This wine comes from the hills between Verona and the Garda Lake, and is exported in large quantities. For the last few years the Novello, a native version of Beaujolais Nouveau, is being produced.
The Bardolino is known as the most popular wine in the hills between Verona and the Garda Lake, but doesn't really improve Italy's wine reputation. Wines from the district right by the small sleepy town of Bardonlino are called Classico.

The Bardolino is a lightly perfumed, dry wine with great flavor of grapes, mild acidity and some bitter finish. There is rarely a certain bitterness. The rosé wine carries the name Bardonlino Chiaretto and has the required freshness demanded of the wine. The borders between the red and rosé wines sometimes get mixed. The name Bardolino Novello is given to those wines that are filled to bottles the same years they were made. The Chiaretto wine is also processed to sparkling (Spumante) wine. Cool fermentation without acidity is important for the production of this fresh wine.

The soils are cold because of the old river deposits and are so suitable for the production of fresh wines, that should be drunk young. The vines grown here are Corvina Veronese, Rondinella, Molinara, and Negrara.
