Many things in the regions reminds of the Romans: the aqueduct, the forum, and the name which comes from the Latin "tarraco".
Tarragona is right on the Mediterranean. The area plays an important role in the wine indusrty, because not only wines from the regiona re produced here, but also this from other regions in Spain, that are then exported,
Tarragona (DO) has a growing area of 300.000 ha, where strong wines, that are missing the finesse of other Catalonian wines, but are perfect as wines to cut other wines are made. Like in other regios of Spain most wines are processed in guild cellars.
Tarragona's most famous wines are the classic sweet wines (white and red), that belong to dessert wines and have very high alcohol contents. The various liqueurs and the vermouth are very important.
