Bellet is a very small appellation. The fruitiest and freshest wines of the Provence are made here, in all colors.
North of the city of Nice there is the tiny appellation of Bellet high in the mountains. Viniculture here goes back to the Phoenicians. Bellet has AOC status, there are no internal classifications.
The microclimate makes special conditions here - the ocean winds cool down the days, nd cold winds come down form the Alps during the night. This position gived the Bellet wines their typical freshness and livelines. Harvest takes place very late (mid-October).
Wines of all colors are made here. The red wines are generally rustic with a rich bouquet and fresh fruit. The rosé wines are dry, very fresh, and have a definite bloom. The white wines are very dry, with body and class, aromatic and strongly scented with complexity and finesse, While the red wines should be stored for 5-8 years, th white wines should be drunk young, so that the exceptional fruit isn't lost. Among the vines cultivated are Fuella, Folle Noir, Cinsault, and Braquet, Rolle, Majorquin, Pignerol, and Chardonnay.
