Wineries in La Rioja

Together with Catamarca, Salta, and Jujuy, La Rioja belongs to the northern wine-producing regions in Argentina.
The area is very small with only 4% of it used for growing vines. The four provinces do belong to the category of 'small but good', and have specialized on the best vine of the country - the Torrontés.

The wines from this grape are spicy, aromatic, and have intense flavor. The best Torrontés of the country come from the Salta province, where at a height of up to 1500m above sea-level, there is a coold climate. The Cabernet Sauvignon is quite good as well, and is marked by its definite refreshing acidity.
