San Juan is Argentina's second-largest wine region, with a quarter of the area used.
The climate here is warmer than in Mendoza, but there is less rainfall. Without artificial irrigation, which is simple thanks to the water reserves in the Andes, viniculture would be impossible. The most important products of this region are grape-concntrate and brandy. The vineyards are shrinking. Only few wines from San Juan make to the export market.
